Valerie M. Jones

is a Senior Researcher in Biomedical Signals and Systems Group at the University of Twente in The Netherlands, where she works on mobile health applications. Dr Jones received a BA Hons. in English Language and Literature and a PhD in Computational Sociolinguistics from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and has conducted research in Universities in the UK and The Netherlands. At the University of Aberdeen she conducted a randomised controlled trial of 15000 patients in Grampian Region in the 90’s. In 2001 she initiated a new research theme at the University of Twente relating to the use of Body Area Networks for health monitoring and treatment and was joint scientific coordinator of the European project MobiHealth, the first of a series of mhealth projects funded by the European Commission and the Dutch Government. Dr Jones’ scientific publications include two books and more than 100 papers in the areas of Computer Science, Sociolinguistics, Classification Theory, Health Services Research and Health Informatics. Her professional titles are: MBCS, CEng, CITP, Eur Ing.
