Piero Mussio



was a full professor of Computer Science at the Università degli Studi di Milano (Italy), where he was the head of the Computer Semiotic Group. His research evolved from Structural Pattern Recognition in images and Complex System Behaviors to Pattern Recognition in Human Computer Interaction, Visual Computing and End User Development. On these topics has published more than 150 papers in international journal and conference proceedings. He served as scientific coordinator and principal investigator of national, regional and local research units in several international and national projects and industrial contracts. He was a Fellow of the IAPR, member of the ACM, member of the Pictorial Computing Laboratory; associate editor of Journal of Visual Languages and Computing. He has served as program chair, general co-chair, scientific co-chair and committee member for PR, HCI and machine vision conferences, schools and workshops.
He passed away on 21 August 2010.
